Ahipao

Living on Waiheke, surrounded by nature, we find endless inspiration in the subtropical landscape. Over the past few years, Elisa, our designer, and I have become a true creative team, pushing boundaries both technically and creatively. This collection challenged us to learn new programming techniques in Japan and teach our young team new skills, from linking to knitting and sewing fringing.

We set out to create something beyond traditional, touristy Kiwiana and ended up making the most technically ambitious pieces in Ahipao’s history — closer to wearable art than fashion. I never imagined wearing a garment with a kiwi on it, yet now I wear this cardigan constantly. Cosy, warm, light and breathable, it even has strangers stopping me to ask where it’s from. Over the coming days, I’ll share the story behind each piece.
